The drive in a car or bus (or cruise via boat) along the 70 kilometres of spectacular coastal fringe is all part of the experience that makes Port Douglas such a great place to visit.

By car or bus, the Captain Cook Highway is the main route to Port Douglas. This drive takes approximately one hour from Cairns city, passing all the Cairns Northern Beaches along the way. The road follows the coast all the way to Port Douglas, offering magnificent views of the Coral Sea and the undisturbed beaches along the way. If you are travelling in a rental car and are not in a hurry, visit one of the golden beaches along the way. They rank among some of the most pristine on the entire coastline of eastern Australia.
