Port Douglas Holiday Homes
63 Murphy Street
Murphy Street Port Douglas would have to be the next most expensive piece of real estate in Port Douglas behind Wharf Street with its multi million dollar homes and villas that dot the hillside tucked in behind huge security gates and fences that are well covered in the thriving rainforest trees from prying eyes. This holiday home has been designed in two separate sections with separate adult areas vs. teenage children’s rooms and describing the zones may be a little difficult. As you enter the front of this Port Douglas holiday house you can see the attention to detail the architects and builders have gone to to make the garage and the entry a statement in their own right. The double garage is made from a beautiful timber and the pillars and fences that surround the property are made of brick and raked concrete for effect.

Property Description
As you enter the front door you are confronted on how to actually enter this home as there is no door handle. Instead you put your key into the concrete wall and the huge timber door unlocks and the hydraulics automatically opens to welcome you to the formal entry area.In front of you is a feature wall of railway sleepers taken from a bridge in the Port Douglas area and preserved for the future. Hanging to the left is a picture of the old bridge as it used to be but as time has gone on and more traffic increasing with heaver use the bridge had to be upgraded to a modern steel structure.
To the left there is a little informal lounge setting where you can conduct some private business and glass fold back doors which lead to its own little private outdoor balcony.
Looking immediately ahead you are drawn in by the huge ceiling to floor bi fold glass doors that fold back to bring the outdoors inside the holiday home. The other thing that is immediately noticeable is the whiteness and coolness of the space with minimalist appearance but still warm and inviting with a smattering of a bit of an Asian feel probably from some of the furniture pieces that are placed strategically around the home.
The views from the lounge are to the south east with a little westerly across the tops of the trees over to ocean views of Four Mile Beach framed by lush green mountains.
The kitchen is very dominant in this space and you can have two or three chefs in here without a problem. The work benches are made of huge thick slabs of imported marble and run the full length of the kitchen benches and walls. If you do not like cleaning dishes then this is your holiday home as the kitchen has two dishwashers to ensure you have no dirty items left unclean. There is a huge oven, a double refrigerator hiding in the generous walk in pantry and a miele barbeque just off the kitchen sitting on its own private balcony behind the huge glass bi fold doors. A very statement orientated kitchen indeed.
At the entry of the home is a large powder room for guests and to the right the huge slab timber staircase leads you to the two internal bedrooms with the master bedroom being quite impressive as it is nearly as big as a one bedroom apartment.
The master bedroom has been sectioned off into its own little zones or spaces. A beautiful hand carved travertine bathing tub sits like an icon in its own little architectural space and the walk in shower with stone feature wall and a double basin sink with its lengthy bench top hide behind a wall and reveal another outdoor balcony for guests to sit and enjoy the outdoors in privacy from the rest of the house.
On the other side of the master bedroom you have another balcony that is approximately 8 meters by 13 meters which leads you straight into the infinity edge swimming pool which lights up at night to give you that resort feel and alluring ambience.
The second king sized bedroom in the house also has its own private balcony secured by the feature brick pillars and glass fold back doors with soaring ceilings and its own private ensuite you feel so tiny in the space.
In this downstairs area you also have the big big laundry and a store room for whatever you desire.
From here you enter the out door garden which leads you down a concrete path to the two separate single hotel style rooms each with their own private ensuites. Both of these rooms are similar in feel to the rooms in the main residence with white walls soaring ceilings, king size beds, bar fridge and minimalist feel.
These rooms sit entirely on their own away from the main residence with a timber balcony running the length of the entry area to sit and enjoy the sunshine.
These hotel style rooms can be rented out separately to the main residence as the guests in here would use a path at the side of the house to come and go from the garden and they have no access to the swimming pool unless the guests in here are connected with the guests in the main holiday house residence.
This Murphy Street holiday house features a wet edge infinity swimming pool, a C Bus security system which controls lighting, air conditioning and security in different zones, huge outdoor dining balconies and barbeque for entertaining.
You will feel very privileged to drive down this street and become a resident of Port Douglas even if just for a short while.
There is luxury in the attention to structure and finish that is both subtle and addictive. The architecture achieves tranquility with the use of discrete contrasts in natural textures: limestone slab flooring against ebony hardwood, thick frameless glass offset by hammered marble enveloped in a series of engaging ponds, pools and water features.
Frangipani, Lipstick Palms, Mango trees and ancient Strangler Figs enhance the extensive landscaped gardens from the front door to the creek bed at the foot of the property.
