Port Douglas in Tropical North Queensland is a very popular holiday destination. As locals we also love Port Douglas for its numerous restaurants. Below are the latest restaurants opened in Port Douglas we've added to our list of restaurants recommendations. 

Watergate Restaurant & Lounge Bar

Located in the heart of Port Douglas, at the corner of Grant and Macrossan Street behind the Rotary Park is where you will find this gem. Surrounded by lush tropical foliage, this restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining.

The cuisine is Modern Australian with ingredients sourced from fresh, seasonal produce to prepare innovative dishes, that incorporate contemporary trends in Australian cooking. Seafood is straight off the local fishing vessels, and fruit and vegetable straight from the Atherton Tableland's. Even their cheeses are also hand-made from local sources.  

Watergate also has a well appointed bar, ideal for a cocktail as the sun sets, or maybe a light meal from the lounge menu with a bottle of wine.

Osprey’s Restaurant

Osprey’s Restaurant offers a fine dining experience in the treetops with uninterrupted panoramic views looking towards Port Douglas, Cape Tribulation and the rainforest-clad mountains across the Coral Sea. Perfect for nature-lovers with birds darting amongst the surrounding tree canopies while dining on Modern Australian Cuisine on a covered veranda.

The head chef uses his skills and inspiration from the vast array of Australia’s quality produce available to create innovative, healthy and tasty dishes.

Osprey’s Restaurant is located on the grounds of Thala Beach Nature Reserve, located a short 10 min drive from the heart of Port Douglas, and is open to day visitors as well as resort guests. Also open for light tastes and coffee in the afternoon. A perfect location for cocktails at sunset!

Sassi Cucina & Bar

Sassis offers a large selection of authentic Italian and Seafood dishes, as well as a selection of desserts. Situated on the inlet-side of Macrossan Street, with views across Anzac Park, you can choose from alfresco dining or in the hotter months, air-conditioned indoor dining.

Tony Sassi, the owner who runs the restaurant, was born in Abruzzo on the Adriatic coast of Italy. He grew up with the sensational flavours of the Italian seaside which has inspired him to share with the locals and visitors to our seaside town of Port Douglas. The menu traditionally Italian, with a contemporary twist to suit the tropics, is inspirited by trattoria style dishes from the coast of Italy. A little piece of Italy found right here in Tropical North Queensland!

If you prefer a casual light bite, pizza is also an option in the bar area with a beer, wine or cocktail.

Seabean Tapas Bar Restaurant

Tapas, Paella and Sangria! A less formal style of dining without skimping on taste, is here at Seabean Tapas Bar & Restaurant.  Embrace the continental way of sharing the occasion with friends and loved ones by sampling authentic Spanish tapas with of course, sangria. the traditional wine punch from Spain. For those wanting something more filling, they have four styles of Paella, all gluten free and including a vegetarian option. For dessert, their famous Crema Catalana served in a half coconut is a must try! 

Located on the corner of Wharf and Warner street, not only do they have sumptuous tasting plates they also have incredible views out towards the ranges across the inlet. So, you can sit back and relax with a cool beverage while watching the boats return to the Marina as the sun goes down over the inlet

Zipangu Japanese Take Away Restaurant

Modest and unassuming, Zipangu is tucked away from mainstream streets of Port Douglas as It is located on the corner of Davidson and Port Street.  It is more of a small casual restaurant take away than a many of the more formal restaurants around Port Douglas. However, if you enjoy the delicacies of Japanese Cuisine, you will be impressed by the freshness of ingredients, quality and variety of dishes that Zipangu has on the menu. Eat in, or take away to eat by the seaside or back at your accommodation.

A lot of love and expertise goes in to the preparation and presentation of the dishes which are all made on site. This is one little Japanese gem in Port Douglas!

The Mexican

With such abundant fresh produce available in the local area, and the chefs using traditional Mexican techniques with herbs and spices, it is not surprising that all the dishes prepared here are mouth-watering! Expect to see the typical fajitas, nachos, tacos, burritos and churros on the menu of course, but you may be pleased to find a unique fusion of Australiana with Mexicana too. kangaroo, crocodile, coral trout, Soft Shell Crab and Barramundi in addition to chicken, pork and beef that you would usually see on a Mexican menu.

Margaritas blend or shaken, plus a cocktail list along with beer and wines are available here, not to mention a full-page menu dedicated to Tequila and Mezcal! 

Located midway along Macrossan Street, the dining experience is a casual affair with upbeat lively music. Sit at tables inside or on the side-walk. Take away is also available here.

Chapter One

Located in the grounds of Niramaya Villas overlooking the pool and tropical gardens of the resort which is approximately 5 min drive from the centre of Port Douglas. This restaurant captures a Balinese style ambience. Seating inside or alfresco. While the contemporary menu is refined, the setting is informal and guests are encouraged to wear what’s comfortable.

Chapter One offers creative dishes inspired from traditional and contemporary styles of cookery. Local and regional produce are hand selected to achieve this. Everything is made from scratch right down to their own cultured butter, yoghurt and smoked goods being cured on site. They recently announced we that they had been awarded an Australian Good Food Guide (AGFG)Chef Hat for 2018.

Along with a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu, adjoined to the restaurant is NextDoor@Chapter One for Tapas, if you enjoy sharing light tastes. And not to mention a tropical Cocktail menu!

Arabellas

Arabella's Port Douglas is the newest addition to the Port Douglas fine-dining scene, it has an exceptional alfresco dining area. Perfect romantic dinners and long lunches with views out over the Coral Sea.

The Executive Chef Daniel Watt has created a mouth-watering menu that highlights the local region's local seafood, along with using fresh locally grown produce and artisan products to create unique and amazing dishes to be remembered. Expect to find a range of beef, pork, local seafood including mud crabs, chicken and game on the menu. Also, vegetarian friendly.

The cocktail list has been created, using the best of Tropical North Queensland fruits, herbs and spices to give you the perfect accompaniment to any of the dishes on offer.
