Great Barrier Reef Marathon Festival 2016 - Port Douglas Queensland, Australia
Runners get to run in the only place in the world where two iconic land marks meet, the World Heritage listed Daintree & Cape Tribulation rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef. The route will take runners through the scenery of the rainforest and then along Four Mile Beach, where the white sands frame the waters of the Coral Sea and The Great Barrier Reef.
The added bonus and incentive to join and run in this race is that every marathon runner’s entry fee helps to contribute $20 towards research and preservation projects to help protect the Great Barrier Reef. The management of this fund is a joint relationship established between the GBR marathon organisation and the James Cook University and governed by a board. One of the projects that is supported by the "Run for the Reef" is the Minke Whale Project.
