This year, the annual celebration of life in the tropics will launch with a food and wine lovers weekend. Port Douglas Carnivale organisers say adjusting the program will result in added attendance and longer term occupancies in the Port Douglas Resorts and Port Douglas Holiday Homes and Port Douglas Holiday Apartments. "We have put together an opening weekend comprising all the core cuisine events so people who travel up from down south – and that includes Cairns! – can plan their visit to the Carnivale to encompass all these key events and plan to stay on afterwards for a relaxing holiday in the tropics said Carnivale's General Manager Mr Ken Dobbs.

Port Douglas Queensland Australia will be in the limelight on the last weekend of May before the inaugural Cairns Triathlon Festival Event resumes by hosting the Coral Coast Triathlon. This is an annual Cairns Port Douglas Triathlon event that attracts competitors from all over Australia.
