St Mary's by the Sea Port Douglas

With traditional wooden pews, stained glass lancet windows throughout and best of all, a church bell that will ring for you on your special day an ultra romantic spot for a Port Douglas Wedding is the historic St Mary's by the Sea. Touted as being one of the prettiest churches in the South Pacific, the beachfront chapel provides stunning views of the ocean through a large window directly behind the alter.

Originally built as a Catholic Church in 1880, St Mary's is affectionately known as the Historic Church by the Sea and is still maintained by the Port Douglas Restoration Society with no cost to the council and residents of Port Douglas.

This much loved timber church was rescued from demolition initially by some residents of Port Douglas, Virginia Donovan and Judi Piat. They formed the "Save the Church" group and then went on to form the Port Douglas Restoration Society with other local Port Douglas residents once the council gave them the land that the church currently has been residing on since November 11 1988.

Since that day St Mary's by the Sea has been lovingly restored to her former glory and her beautiful timber beams and planks of hickory ash and silky oak have had to be replaced over time to keep her looking polished and authentic. St Mary's By the Sea is now used year round for romantic beachside church weddings and Christmas carol services.

St Mary's by the Sea church is situated on the foreshore at Wharf Street Port Douglas next to the Rex Smeal Park and the road leading to Pier 319. The church is typical Queenslander style construction with white timber frames and old style exposed exterior studding and propped up to give it height by timber stumps.

This quaint old church has steeply pitched roofing of corrugated iron to give it that sense of space and height when inside. She is rectangular in shape with a cute little entry porch at the front for guests and another door at the side for the celebrant and the groom and groomsmen to enter. As the guests enter they are immediately taken aback by the view at the alter.

A huge glass window shows off the boats as they sail past and the rainforest clad mountains beyond the inlet making photography in this church absolutely stunning. The stained glass lancet windows add to the allure of St Mary's by the Sea along with the traditional wooden pews and church bell.

The pathways and colourful gardens around the church also add to the ambience of a tropical wedding and further enhance your Port Douglas wedding photographs.

St Mary's By the Sea can comfortably seat 80 guests although you may have to include extra guests standing at the back of the church totaling around 100 guests. 's by the sea hire: e Church is available for hire for one and a half hours.

Example: if you are getting married at 3 pm, you will have access to the church from 2.30 pm for your guests' arrival until 4pm

St David's Church - Mossman

Anglican Church

Construction of St David's Anglican Church commenced in 1912 and it took 40 long and hard years of dedication to build and complete this beautiful heritage hand cut stone church. Obstacles that held up the construction time were due to the First World War breaking out in 1914 and the Second World War in 1939 which then put pressure on sourcing building products like cement, and then a world wide economic decline which ended up as the great depression and a cyclone to add to that along with some flooding.

St David's church was finally completed in 1952 with the constant persistence of the local clergy and its hard working members. Today St David's Anglican Church in Mossman Queensland Australia sits behind an avenue of towering fern-clad raintrees that form a green archway along part of the Captain Cook Highway (Foxton Avenue) that takes road travelers out of the centre of Mossman toward Cape Tribulation and the Daintree Rainforest.

These trees and the beautiful archway they make are constantly photographed by the tourists that stumble upon them on their north bound journey.

The hand cut stone that was used to make this church was sourced from a local cane farm that was located beside the Mossman River and is complimented by the beautiful stained glass windows that feature mosaics of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The church bell was handcrafted from a piece of marble brought over from St Paul's Cathedral in London.

This quaint countryside church even has its own resident organist you may engage for your Mossman country style wedding ceremony.

Views from the church look over George Davis Park with cane fields behind, and views of the Great Dividing Range and the Daintree National Park in the distance.

Sunday markets in the church gardens under the 100 year old raintrees are very popular and a site to see.

St Andrew's Church - Mossman

St Andrew's Anglican Church was consecrated in 1989 by Bishop Anthony Hall-Mathews. An ultra modern church designed for the tropics, was completed debt free in 1989 on a two acre site just outside the main centre of Port Douglas.

Oak Beach Wedding

Oak Beach is situated in a little beachfront cove just a twenty five minute drive north from Palm Cove or fifteen minutes drive south of Port Douglas Queensland Australia. Oak Beach is comprised of a few private beachfront houses on a 1.5 kilometer stretch of palm lined beachfront.
